What is the Ansteorran Gazette?

The Gazette is the monthly newsletter for the heralds and scribes in the Kingdom of Ansteorra.

The Gazette is also a critical piece of the Ansteorran Submission process for names and devices. Members of the SCA, in Ansteorra, who wish to register names or devices/arms send their submissions to the Asterisk Herald. Asterisk creates an Internal Letter of Intent (ILoI) to register those items. That ILoI is published in the Gazette to generate commentary among the kingdom's heraldic community (and some out-of-kingdom commenters). The commentary is published in the Gazette, as is a list of those items which passed this Kingdom-level check and were passed on to the SCA-wide Laurel level in a external Letter of Intent (LoI). The final results are also published, as an excerpt of the Ansteorran items of the Laurel Letter of Acceptances and Returns (LoAR).

Who publishes the Gazette? How do I subscribe?

The Gazette is published by the Obelisk Herald. Obelisk is the head of the Publications Arm of the Ansteorran College of Heralds. Obelisk is always happy to accept articles, questions, games, etc. for publication in the Gazette. Questions about the Gazette and about submitting content can be directed to obelisk@ansteorra.org.

How do I find addresses for these heralds?

Addresses for these heralds can be found in the quarterly published rosters in copies of the Gazette. They can also be found each month in the back of the Black Star (the kingdom's monthly newsletter). If those sources are not available to you, try contacting Obelisk Herald through the email mentioned above.

Issues of the Gazette

Below are links for the current issue of the Gazette, and for some back issues. These issues are all in PDF format and require the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view. Copies of Acrobat Reader are available for download from Adobe. To help keep file sizes down, these PDFs have been produced in 150dpi, instead of 300dpi; this has caused some degradation of the graphics to one degree or another. If anything is unclear, first check to see if the appropriate ILoI is available in PDF format, and if not, please feel free to contact Obelisk.
